Our Coalition

The Solar for All Indiana (SFAI) Coalition is an equity-centered, ecological systems-based approach to dismantling and disrupting the policies and practices impeding equitable access to solar-powered, affordable, clean energy.

SFAI brings together the Indiana Community Action Association, the Indiana Energy Independence Fund, the Hoosier municipalities of Gary, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis, advocacy groups like Earth Charter Indiana, Citizens Action Coalition, post-secondary education institutions like Indiana University Environmental Resilience Institute, faith-based organizations like Faith in Place, and renewable energy experts like Solar United Neighbors and Energy Matters Community Coalition to deliver a transformative energy financing and access program to overcome the structural and implementation challenges that have traditionally impeded the proliferation of solar energy to low-moderate income households across Indiana. The SFAI coalition includes the Indiana Solar Equity For All Alliance (ISEFAA), led by the NAACP Indiana State Conference and Black Sun Light Sustainability, a nonprofit with a mission to support a just transition to energy equity.

SFAI will address policies that impede the market’s growth, innovate within current policy constraints, reduce upfront costs and address financing gaps, and provide support for workforce development, small businesses, public outreach, utility coordination, and local policies, ordinances, and procedures for solar market participation.

SFAI is dedicated to overcoming the structural barriers that exist in Indiana to maximize the number of people served and catalyze additional solar deployment beyond projects directly funded by Solar for All financial assistance. Together we will transform and spur the Indiana solar deployment market, achieving equity in access and utilization of clean energy and greater resilience to climate change.

From rooftops to community solar…

The Inflation Reduction of 2022 Act authorized the EPA to implement the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, a $27 billion investment to combat the climate crisis by mobilizing financing and private capital for greenhouse gas- and air pollution-reducing projects in communities.

Within this Fund, EPA has created a $7 billion Solar for All fund — designed to spur the deployment of residential distributed solar energy to lower energy bills for millions of Americans and catalyze transformation in markets serving low-income and disadvantaged communities.

Our coalition was the recipient of just one of 60 state and regional awards to implement this program in Indiana.
